Unlike different varieties of apples, as an example, different varieties of cherries pretty much look alike. However, there are subtle differences with regards to shape, taste, hardiness, and other characteristics.

The Chelan cherry is an early season cherry, one of the first to be harvested in the Okanagan Valley each year. It is a dark red, medium sized cherry. From a flavour point of view, it is very much a sweet cherry and it makes for a great eating cherry.
Developed by Star and Van cultivars, Cristalina™ is heart-shaped and plump with dark red-to-black skin and firm, dark flesh. Sweet and moderately large on long thick stems, Cristalina™ can be picked stemless. The tree is very productive with wide spreading branches.
The Satin Cherry is an early season cherry developed by Summerland Varieties Corp. This large heart shaped cherry tends to be very firm with a mild sweet flavour.
Lapin cherries are available during mid-summer months. They are distinguished by their deep ruby red colored skin and their lush, plump size. The fruit's surface is smooth and rounded with a slight heart-shape and lustered finish. They produce flavours that are rich and sweet, without a trace of tartness. The texture is meaty and succulent.
Developed in British Columbia, Skeena™ is a sweet, kidney-shaped cherry with a dark red-to-black skin and dark red flesh. The fruit is very firm and appears to have good tolerance to rain-induced cracking.
The Sweetheart™ cherry is a large, bright red heart-shaped cherry. The Sweetheart™ variety matures at the end of the season and remains firm after picking. This variety is productive with good firmness, size and flavour.
The Staccato variety of cherries is a large heart-shaped black skin cherry which usually ripens in the 3rd week os August in the Okanagan Valley. This is a great late cherry with excellent quality and flavour. It is very firm and very tolerant to rain splitting.
The Sentennial® cherry is an excellent, large, attractive, late season cherry. It is a medium to large cherry with a dark wine red skin. It has a mild flavour and it is of a firm to hard consistency.
